Join our women-only deployment to Şanlıurfa, Türkiye, from 29th October to 4th November 2024 to support Syrian children affected by conflict.

The Syrian conflict has displaced millions, leaving many children with both physical and psychological scars. In Şanlıurfa, Türkiye, these young survivors face severe challenges and urgently need our support.

Join our women-only deployment to Şanlıurfa during the October half-term (week 4-5 days) and make a meaningful impact in these children’s lives.

For a registration fee of £500, which covers flights, accommodation, and basic meals, you can participate in this transformative experience.

During the deployment, you will:

  • Oversee daily activities at a children’s rehabilitation center.
  • Meet families attending the center.
  • Assist with teaching English classes.
  • Help run a coffee morning for the center’s parents.
  • Possibly organise day trips for the children.
  • Assist with general maintenance of the center.

This is a unique opportunity to:

  • Provide physiotherapy to aid recovery from war-related injuries and improve mobility.
  • Offer psychological support to help children overcome trauma and rebuild their mental health.
  • Educate and train parents, enabling them to continue care at home.

Small Steps - Şanliurfa deployment FAQ:

 

When is the Şanliurfa (Türkiye) deployment taking place?

The ISRA-UK team deployment to the Helping Hands children’s rehabilitation centre in Şanliurfa in Türkiye will take place between 26th October and 3rd November 2024 half-term (exact 4-5 days between these dates TBC).

Who can take part in the Şanliurfa deployment?

This deployment is open to women-only. All participants must fundraise a minimum amount for the children’s rehabilitation project. All participants must be over the age of 18 and will be DBS-checked.

How much money do deployment participants have to raise?

The minimum fundraising target for ISRA-UK’s ‘Small Steps’ project working with the Helping Hands children’s rehabilitation centre in Şanliurfa in Türkiye is £1,500. This money will go towards covering the cost of supporting a child and their family at the centre for a year.

Where will the money I raise go and how will it be used?

Money raised for ISRA-UK’s ‘Small Steps’ appeal will be providing physiotherapy, supplying physical aids, psychological therapies, education and empowering families to continue care at home; all at a rehabilitation centre for children who are refugees of wars and with physical disabilities.

Do I pay for flights and accommodation?

The registration cost of £500 which will cover the participant’s flights, accommodation and basic meals during the humanitarian visit. This includes travel on the ground in Türkiye during deployment duties, hotel stays, breakfast and dinner. Do I need travel insurance? It is welcome if you already have travel insurance, but ISRA-UK will be covering your travel insurance during this deployment visit.

What will I need to bring with me?

The deployment flights to Türkiye include a standard baggage allowance and participants are expected to bring their own personal luggage such as clothes, toiletries and any medicines they need for the duration of the stay. The registration costs must be paid in full before travel.

What will participants be doing while in Şanliurfa?

ISRA-UK deployment participants will be overseeing day to day activities at Helping Hands centre, meeting families who attend, participating in assisting with teaching English classes, help with running of coffee mornings for parents of the children at the centre, potential day trips organised for the children, and general maintenance duties at the centre. There will also be one day for participants to reflect on their time/experience.

Will there be any men on this deployment?

Although the ISRA-UK deployment is for women-only and the Şanliurfa children’s centre is run predominantly by women, there will be some male members of staff present during the visit.

What if I don’t raise my target?

You can continue fundraising during the deployment trip and for a few weeks after the visit. You will have ample time to reach your target and raise as much as you can for the Şanliurfa children’s centre.

Will there be photos or videos taken of me?

ISRA-UK captures photography and video during our deployments, for publication internally and externally on our website, social media platforms and on occasion, news and media outlets. Participants of our deployments are included in this. External partners often also capture photographs and video at their respective locations.
